How many runner usually take part in the Fun Run?
Between 650 and 750 every year.
What is the record time?
18.5 mins, a record which has stood for a decade. And usually there are a number of good athletes who run the course in under 20 mins.
What time does the race start?
11am, on the dot.
What charity will benefit from this fun run?
CLIC Sargent. Over the next 48 hours, 10 children and young people will be diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. CLIC Sargent, the UK's leading children's cancer charity, wants to see a world where all children and young people with cancer live life to the full.
CLIC Sargent will be there for each family, caring every step of the way, providing individual support to children and young people with cancer and leukaemia and their families through:
Clinical, psychosocial, emotional and financial services in hospital, at home and in the community across the UK.
Being a strong voice nationally and locally.
Research into improving treatment and care.
How do I get to Oldbury?
From the North
Leave M5 at junction 14
Turn right on B4509 towards Thornbury for 0.5 miles
Turn left on A38 towards Thornbury for 1.5 miles
Turn right on B4061 towards Thornbury and Oldbury for 1.5 miles
Turn right towards Oldbury
Then as local route below.
From the South
Leave M5 at junction 16
Turn north on A38 towards Thornbury 5.5 miles (ignore first turning towards Thornbury at traffic lights)
Turn left to Oldbury for 0.5 miles
At first roundabout turn right to Oldbury for 1.5 miles
At T junction turn left and immediately right to Oldbury
Then as local route below.
From the West and East
Leave M4 at junction 15/20 and turn South on M5
Then as for "From the South"
Local Route
Follow the road into the village of Oldbury approximately 2.5 miles
Follow signs to Fun Run car park.
Is there any where to park?
There will be car parking on the village sports ground. This will be signposted when you get to the village. There will be a car parking charge of £1 per car.
Which roads will be closed?
A small part of the village on Church Road will be closed all day, while the route itself is closed to vehicles from 10.30am to some time after noon.
Where can I get an entry form?
There will be no more postal applications after June 17th - if you want to enter either enter on the day or see below.
There will be entry forms at The Anchor Inn and the Ship Inn in Oldbury. Also at Bonds of Thornbury at 14 The Plain, Thornbury, Thornbury Motor, or Elite Fitness Centres. The forms must be returned with a large SAE to the address on the form.
Are there changing facilities?
The pavilion by the car park on the sports ground will be available.
Can I register on the day?
Yes, for an extra charge of £2 you can register from 9.30am at the Anchor Inn.
What are the entry fees for the race?
Adults/Under 18s/Under 15s; £6, plus £2 if entering on the day.
Under 13; £3 plus £2 if entering on the day.
What are the classes in the Fun Run?
Adult Male; Adult Female; Under 18 Male; Under 18 Female; Under 15 Male; Under 15 Female;
Over 60 Male; Over 60 Female; Under13 Male; Under 13 Female; Walkers.
Can I collect sponsors for running?
There will be a sponsor form included in the pack that is sent out to you after you have registered. Or you can download it from here.
What other activities will there be?
There will be stalls and displays, rides and candy floss, Tug of War competition, Treasure Hunt, barbecues and roasts, local ice cream on sale. A Beer Festival at the Ship Inn. There will be music at various venues.Also a history exhibition about the village during the war years. Finishing the day will be a local Songs of Praise at the Methodist Chapel on the Pound.
