Too Many Words

About Writing: Pointless Words

I want to share some thoughts (well, twitter on anyway) about the use of excess words. Extraneous words if you will. Some writers have a propensity to write one word plus one more word, when sometimes, no words will suffice.

I’m angry.

That sentiment above is redundant. And you’ve just read it; you can’t take it back. Tweet about it all you like, it’s about as useful as smashing your face with a book. In fact, smashing your face with a book is a better way of showing emotion than getting your character to say “I’m frustrated”.
