We’ve looked before at the FOX network’s remake of Birds Of A Feather. It was called Stand By Your Man, starred Rosie O’Donnell, and aired in the US in the spring of 1992. Whilst looking at clippings for Keeping Up Appearances, I came across this interesting article …
It’s from the Mirror on Saturday 27th October 1990, and seems to be referring to a different adaptation than the FOX one. Marks and Gran say they’re working with CBS, and it’s a long time before the FOX show.
I do wonder if the article above is just wrong, because only a few days later, in a clipping we’ve seen before, The Stage seems to suggest that Stand By Your Man is being made by FOX.
But then, come February of 1991, The Stage says this …
And now, by June, the full details seem to be in place.
In fact, this deal appears to have taken years to come to fruition, as witnessed by this article from 1989.

And it’s left to the Aberdeen Press And Journal, of all places, to tell the country that the pilot has been picked up and given a series commitment.
