The myths that have grown up around Ghostwatch speak both to the excellent execution of the show, as well as to word of mouth and folk memory. So I thought I’d have a quick, cursory look at the newspaper coverage that was being printed at the time.
The show was clearly part of the Screen One strand, on screen and off, as this Halloween write-up in the Liverpool Echo makes obvious.

Here’s Walter Huntley’s column from the Echo on the 5th November.
Hilary Kingsley wasn’t impressed by the whole thing at all, as she explains in her column for the Mirror on the 7th.
The Echo was still printing letters about it on the 13th.
So was the Mirror on the 14th.
