Let’s have a quick look at Bruce’s return to the BBC, after his sojourn over on ITV. Takeover Bid is a rather neat idea, albeit with far too long a wait to get to the meat of the game. The theme tune is a real ear worm though, and the graphics were made on a Quantel Harry.
Takeover Bid ran for 28 episodes over two series in 1990-91. It was created by Terry Mardell (who also created Big Break around this time) and John Lyons. Its debut was watched that first Saturday by 7.6 million viewers, which rose to 8 million the following week. It moved to Mondays for the second series, and saw a drop in numbers to 6.3 million.
