When the Fox network launched its weekend evening schedule in 1986, it somehow managed to begin with some shows that would last forever, or ones that spawned other shows that did much better. Married … With Children was a staple of the network for years, The Tracey Ullman Show launched careers and other shows, and then there was Mr. President.
This show should have stuck around in our popular conscience more than it has.
I mean, look at that Created By credit up there. It’s not often Johnny Carson ventured into sitcom, and it’s not often that a sitcom can boast George C Scott as its star. It lasted for 24 episodes over two seasons, but it never really made a dent in the ratings.
It was up against three Sunday night movies, so maybe that hindered it.
