There’s A Hole In My Brit

At the 1985 Brit Awards, things didn’t seem to be going too well. Then came the category for the Best Comedy Record, and things livened up a bit.

It’s worth looking at all this a little more closely.

Listen to the crowd just talking over Noel, and look at how lost he looks (this was the first time the awards had been televised). When Billy comes on, they start to pay attention, and he begins to get them more and more focused until he owns the room.

The punchline to his edible record gag was clearly changed to ‘it sucks’ from ‘it’s shit’.

And Nigel Planer appears to be sporting his hair from Roll Over Beethoven, the Marks and Gran sitcom that was about to air on ITV in two weeks time.
